It took me an hour to find someone who actually gave useful advice on this condition. And it worked. Thank you so much.

Thank you SO MUCH. Yours was the first link I investigated after the initial panic attack/weepy resignation of seeing my unresponsive iPod touch, that suddenly went black after finishing a song....this trick fixed it immediately (so far, so good, at least), and you have my profound gratitude.
Just for the record, my iPod touch 4gen had been perfectly well just prior to entering its little coma, and had just finished a song when I went to select a new song and found it unresponsive. No known reason, but I'm glad there was a cure!

I have the same problem with an iTouch 2nd Gen, i did your method, but redsn0w never completes, but i can bring the device into DFW mode. I tried to restore with iTunes, but it sticks on "preparing iPod for restore" then after a while, it gives me error 1601. I keep Device Manager open (im using windows xp) to make sure that it stays on, because it keeps turning itself off.

Before you say it doesnt have the battery power, i had it plugged in yesterday for a couple hours thinking it was dead.
